River Flooding

The Minnesota River flooded a few weeks back and the roads are still closed in Shakopee going into Chaska and Eden Prairie. Here are a few pics from a few weeks back.

Can't get in the car without a snack, of course We're stopped on the road waiting for a train to pass.

So, one day I thought "Hey, I used to teach preschool and I now have a preschooler. I should get all that stuff out and put it to good use!"

Remember what I said about Lilly's smiling? This is a perfect example!

This is her displaying a fall tree that she had placed leaves, animals and birds on.

MN Landscape Arboretum

We went to the Arboretum twice in one week; once with Daddy and the other time with Grandma, Papa, Aunt Sheri and cousins Eli and Evan. Here we are together on a bench in the middle of the "tree park."

This is a tunnel which is a part of a fun tree maze. Blue is Lilly's favorite color, so we had to take a picture :)

Recently we went to the Burnsville Center with Aunt Sheri and cousins Eli and Evan and Papa. The little playpark they had was a disappointment, but since Eli was there, Lilly had a great time!

The first picture is of Lilly at the Children's Museum in the Clifford exhibit. Her favorite thing was to drive this bus/car thingy and I had to 'encourage' her to leave in order for the other kids to have a turn.
The next 3 pictures are of us at my dad's birthday. So, we've got Lilly hugging a very excited Eli. (I think he was upset because he wanted more cookies than his parents wanted him to have.) Then Grandma & Papa Rickabaugh with cousins Eli & Evan. And last, Lilly with Mama, Daddy and Baby Brother, too :)

Random Winter Fun

Well, when winter gets long, we need to get creative with our indoor surroundings :) In the first few pictures, Lilly helped me make play-doh in her favorite color-blue. In the next pic, she's with her cousins Elijah and Evan as they came over for a playdate. The next few pics show Lilly doing some of her favorite things; playing on her computer and riding the train while wearing Daddy's hat. The last few pictures show her being giggly with Daddy and "cutting" mama's hair. BTW, we have no idea where she picked this up, since she's never seen anyone's hair get cut ?!?!?

Valentine's Fun!

In the spirit of Valentine's Day, we decorated some yummy cookies! Everything is nice, clean and orderly in the first picture (just the way I like it) and progressively gets messier by the end (the way Lilly likes it.) She had fun picking out "white" or "brown" frosting and deciding which sprinkles to put on. She also had great restraint when it came to choosing between decorating another cookie or eating a cookie-I think she decorated 4 cookies before caving and deciding to eat one!

It's Too Cold Outside...

So, it was yet another cold day here in MN. We decided to head out to Edinborough Park to escape the cold and give Lilly some much-needed playtime. Unfortunately, everyone else had the same idea! Despite the large volume of people, we did manage to have a good time. As you can see, Lilly enjoyed time with Daddy on the slides, in a scooter chair and organizing colored cones (too bad the other kids kept "screwing up" her cones :)

We ventured to the zoo recently to escape the cold and experience a bit of warmth. Although it was too cold to visit the outdoor exhibits, we had a fun time indoors seeing the birds, turtles, plants, monkeys and dolphins. Lilly enjoyed watching the ducks swim under water and the dophins play with their toys. We'll be back soon!

Sledding

Since Lilly had never been sledding before, we thought we'd give it a try on a small hill first; Our driveway! It had just enough slippery snow-pack, from not religiously shoveling, to make it fun. It also had the advantage of a short, easy climb back up to the top...Something we would soon struggle with.

Sledding Part II

So, after our driveway sledding went well, we took Lilly in the sled and walked across the street to the "big" hill just near our house. Again, Lilly had never been sledding, so we weren't sure how she'd react. Drew decided to take the plunge with her since I'm pregnant and wasn't sure I'd make it back up the hill ;) Turns out she had a great time, twice, until she got too cold and Drew decided going up the hill more than that wouldn't be so much fun. We'll have to do it again sometime on a warmer day and maybe a slightly smaller hill.

Potty Training-AHHHH!

So, we decided to take the plunge this week and get Lilly potty-trained! We've had our ups and downs, but I'd say we're in overall good shape. The first picture just makes me laugh; since we decided to put her in underwear right away (no pull-ups) I thought I would need something to catch any potential leaks while out in public, since she's still training. I bought these cotton-lined plastic pants that go over the underwear and you can see by Lilly's expression how she felt about them :) I've only tried them once in public and she didn't have an accident, so their effectivness remains to be seen- to be continued...

We decided to do some after-Christmas shopping at the Mall of America, so we thought Lilly might have a good time at Nickelodeon Universe on the rides. She seemed a bit apprehensive, but once she learned that she'd be riding Blue with daddy and saw all her favorite characters, she was excited. It was pretty sweet to watch :)

Christmas Time!

Christmas is here and boy did we have fun! Lilly had a good time, especially this year, because she was better able to understand opening presents. She was also able to spend some time with Auntie Mary and Sean, who came from Atlanta to visit.

Playing in the Snow!

We woke up to some fresh snow the other day so we decided to go play! This was Lilly's first time in the snow this season and boy did she have fun! She was a little shocked when we threw some snow in her face, but quickly got over it when she discovered she could throw it at mom and dad :) She helped daddy shovel the driveway and seemed to like sweeping it as well. She also attempted some snow angels, but I think they turned out more like snow blobs. You can imagine how hard it was to get her inside when, after an hour, we got too cold!

Decorating the Tree

After we got the tree home, we decorated it and the house for Christmas. Drew and I quickly realized that we were both allergic to the tree when we got poked with the needles, so we decided to wear gloves :) Lilly is enjoying touching all the ornaments and telling us what each one of them is. She calls it the "kissmiss tree."

Cutting Down the Tree

This was our 2nd year of cutting down our own tree and we had fun! Since we forgot our camera last year, we were excited to take a lot of pictures, as you can see :) Lilly really enjoyed running around all the trees and seemed to get pretty involved with the twine that was to secure our tree to the car?!?

Halloween

Lilly spent the day dressed in Halloween colors. We took a trip to Great-grandma's and to daddy's work where Lilly got lots of treats. Drew's coworkers were dressed as the Wizard of Oz and Lilly was pretty scared of daddy dressed like the lion :) At night, we dressed her as a monarch butterfly and went around the neighborhood to "tick-o-teat." Lilly had so much fun running in the street to each house and recieving candy (which her mom and dad later ate.)

Fall

We went to the pumpkin patch and were able to find a perfect sized pumpkin for Lilly. She really enjoyed running throughout the patch, even though she tripped on the vines multiple times.
